A Good Way To Learn the Conditionals in business situations:

  1. Identify a business problem                                                                                                eg…the company (a supermarket) needs to reduce prices to improve it»s image.
  2. Use the 3rd conditional to express regret at not doing something earlier:                          eg...»If the directors hadn»t been so focussed on their bonus we would have had a more positive public image today.  (if + past perfect + present perfect with would)
  3. Use the 2nd conditional to express a possible but unlikely solution:                                   eg…If the government were to intervene with food subsidies for supermarkets we would be able to keep prices at this level.   (if + past + would).
  4. Use the first conditional for realistic solutions:                                                                     eg…We will have to reduce prices to keep customers coming to the shop.                                                                                                                                                          I hope this helps.
