Zero Hours Employment Contracts.
These are contracts in the UK, which do not have FIXED work hours and IMPOSE no obligations on either PARTY-neither on the employer or the employee. (In spain the worker would have to have self-employed ((autonomo)) status to operate under the same terms and conditions.
The only obligations that an employer has in these circumstances are a) to provide a mimimun wage (salario minimo interprofesional) b) sick pay (pago por enfermedades comunes) and where appropriate c) holiday pay (if the qualifying criteria are met).
These zero hours contracts usually operate in the following way: The employee telephones the company on a Sunday with his/her availability for the week beginning on the Monday. The company will then sign-up the person for the number of hours that they have available.
I hope these expressions are useful.
