Overall, if you are used to writing up emails and feel your concentration could be affected by external sounds and want to get your results quickly, it’s probably better to do the computer based exam. Why? Continue reading to find out the answer!
As far as the speaking is concerned it makes no difference.
With regard to the listening, there can be a lot of interference when doing the exam on paper, because of students rustling their documents etc… and there can also be poor sound quality from the audio; as well as students coughing and sneezing at key moments. In the computer based exam you will have a headset so this can block out a lot of external sounds.
For the reading, if you do the paper based version you can make notes in the margin and underline different parts of the text. But you are given rough paper for the computer based version.
The advantage of the computer based test with regard to the writing is that you can 100% focus on writing a version on the rough paper they give you in the exam room and then just type out the final version onto the computer. You won’t have any untidy crossings out (tachar) in the margins etc… etc… On the computer, you also have a word count which is very useful.
