In this section we look at common phrasal verbs of movement with on, off and out. We also look at phrasal verbs + preposition, eg….I got off at Cuatro Caminos (Me baje en Cuatro Caminos).

On, off and out are often used with verbs of movement:

  • We got on the train at 8:30 in the morning.
  • Why did you drive off without saying goodbye?
  • Did you find it very dark, going through the tunnel, on the way to San Rafael?
  • Why did you walk out of the room without saying anything?
  • I went back home by train.

Often phrasal verbs are followed by a preposition:

  • I couldn’t keep up with him because he was walking too fast.
  • You have to face up to your responsibilities, you´re nearly 40.
  • How often did you give up on your son during his drug taking?
  • You should’t walk on by when you see someone you know on the street.
  • Are you looking forward to your holiday?
